Home Power & Backup
Which Power Station or Balcony Solar Kit Do You Need?
2 guidesUpdated October 2026
We compare power stations on the watt-hours you can actually use, from Outdoor Life’s tests, and on whether the output starts your biggest appliance. For balcony solar, the German guide compares where the battery sits.
What these guides found
Twenty-four units across two markets, and in both the label capacity was the least useful number on the box. On the US side an independent test (Outdoor Life) drew 49–77% of the label out of the twelve units it tested at a small overnight load; the inverter is running itself. On the German side the deciding question is not capacity at all but where the battery sits and what happens to the surplus, because the 800 W feed-in cap applies to every architecture. Both guides therefore rank on what you can use, not on what is printed.
How we judge home power & backup
- Usable watt-hours at your load: on a small overnight load Outdoor Life’s twelve units delivered 49–77% of the label.
- Continuous output against the start-up surge of the largest thing you will plug in.
- LiFePO4 chemistry and a stated cycle count; expansion path if the outage might get longer.
